Billy ‘Hal’ McMakin

Billy Hal McMakin was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Van Zandt County. He was a resident of Grand Saline and member of the Church of Christ. He worked as a truck driver and also built fences. He served as a HUD councilman for Grand Saline, and was also a member of the Texas Square Dance Association and East Texas Square & Round Dance Association.

Hal passed away at the age of 83 on April 1, 2020, in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Bill McMakin, and brother-in-law, Loy Brown Hill.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Dolores Songer McMakin of Grand Saline; six children (two biological and four stepchildren) sister, Anne Hill; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
