Gina L. (Grimes) Podhorecka (59) of Warsaw, Poland, passed away June 11, 2020, seven months after being diagnosed with cancer. She was the daughter of Judy (Griffin) Grimes of Canton and the late Kenneth Merl Grimes.
At the time of her death, Gina was the senior editor for Emerging Europe Publications in the Equity Research Department of PEKAO Investment Banking in Warsaw. She had full authority in editing research reports, including English language standardization. She edited thousands of research reports, including those prepared for the largest IPO (initial public offering) transactions on the stock market. In addition, Gina worked as a communications consultant for the city of Warsaw, College of Europe Natolin, the Embassy of Japan, IKO- Institute of Polish for Foreigners, the Polish Agency for Foreign Investment, and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.
She was president of Goodwill Poland from 1993- 1998, and was active in the American and British Chambers of Commerce, and in the Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum. The consummate networker, Gina organized an informal monthly luncheon of expat and Polish professional and business women in the mid 90’s called “RNWW”. When asked what that acronym stood for, Gina would reply, “Really Neat Women in Warsaw.”
Gina was born in 1961 in Arkansas and grew up in Canton, where she graduated from high school. She attended Baylor University and Texas Tech University. She loved to travel — Paris, London, Rome, Spain, anywhere in Europe, but her dream was to one day live in a condo on the beach in Port Aransas. Gina enjoyed cooking, reading, taking walks, and spending time with her friends, and family.
Having dual citizenship in both Poland, and the United States, Gina was in the process of moving back to the states after reuniting with her high school sweetheart, Mack Morgan of Grand Saline, whom she called the love of her life.
Gina was preceded in death by her husband, Marek Podhorecki, and her father, Kenneth Merl Grimes. She is survived by her mother, Judy Griffin Grimes of Canton; brothers Douglas Grimes of Canton, and Dan Grimes of Arlington; and sister, Dana Grimes Rustad of Minnesota.
