Imogene Joyce Newton was born May 18, 1930, in the Tundra Community to Andrew Jackson and Bonnie Olivia Rowan. Her childhood was spent in Canton, where she attended Canton schools through graduation. Imogene married the love of her life,

Imogene married the love of her life, Jesse Edward Newton, on Nov. 11, 1946. Their only child, Jesse Edward Newton, Jr., was born in January 1948. As a family, in the year 1951, they moved to Dallas where they resided for 39 years. For 29 of those years, Imogene was employed by Sears and Roebuck working in the South West Territory Personnel Division. Upon her retirement, she was very involved in the Women’s Golf Association at Las Colinas Country Club, where Edward worked as the golf course superintendent. She loved playing golf for enjoyment as well as in competitive tournaments. After she and Edward retired, they returned to Canton, building a home and settling into the leisure lifestyle of East Texas, enjoying their family, beautiful yard, and travel.

Imogene was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was being

Granny to her two grandsons, Tres and Brian. She enjoyed playing golf with them as young boys and later supporting their individual competitive golf journeys.

Imogene was a member of Walnut Springs Bible Baptist Church, where she was blessed with many friends. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Imogene passed away March 10, 2021, at the age of 90 at Azalea Trail Nursing Facility in Grand Saline, where she received love and “Care Beyond Compare” for which we, as her family, will be forever grateful. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation for the care she received from her physician, Dr. John Turner and Caring Hearts Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Billy Mac Rowan, Martha Joe Rowan, Toy Lea Morgan, and Margaret Weatherall. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward

She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Newton; son, Eddie and wife, Becky; grandsons, Tres and wife, Paige; and Brian.

Imogene was buried March 19, 2021, at Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Eubank Funeral Home, following a private graveside service with the Reverends David Fortner, Jr., Butch Cunningham officiating.

Pallbearers were her nephews, Joe Wright and Bernard Weatherall; son, Eddie and grandsons Tres and Brian.
