Services for Janet Clem were held Monday, May 11, 2020 at Prairie Springs Cemetery, Ben Wheeler, with Caleb Foley officiating.

Following the service, a reception was held at Stanger Springs Community Church.

Janet Ann Tarver Clem was born May 28, 1937, in San Diego, California, to the late Richard James Tarver and Gladys Julia Stanger Tarver. Janet passed away at the age of 82 on May 7, 2020, at her home in Ben Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her son, Jason Holt, in 2015.

Janet was a descendant of Oswald Rusk Stanger, who resided in Van Zandt County before 1860. She was a graduate of San Diego High School, San Diego State College, and University of Texas at Tyler. She taught elementary school in San Diego and Poway, California, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Dallas and Van. She served as past president for the local chapters of Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Gamma Phi Beta. She was a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and an Advisory Board member of the Van Zandt County Library. A resident of the Stanger Springs Community since 1973, Janet was a member of the Stanger Springs Community Church, where she taught Sunday school, played the piano and served as treasurer. She also served as treasurer of Prairie Springs Cemetery. Janet was an avid reader and she loved to bake, sew and garden.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Laskowski Piatkowski and husband, Joe of Springdale, Arkansas, and Erica Holt Fursova and husband, Serguei of Moscow, Russia; sister, Charlotte Louise Tarver; grandchildren, Travis Piatkowski, JoAnn Thao, and Elizavetta, Ekaterina and Emmelia Fursova; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Theodore Piatkowski, and Brandon and Michael Thao.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Van Zandt County Library, or the Abilene, Texas Chapter of CASA.
