A funeral service was held for Jerry Leon Gandy, 79, of Athens, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 3, 2020, at St. Edwards Catholic Church South Campus Building under the direction of Eubanks Funeral Home with Father Nolan Lowry officiating.
Jerry Gandy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Sept. 29, 2020. He was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Athens, to Aubrey Leon Gandy and Pauline Daniel Gandy.
Jerry was Christian by faith with a deep faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He grew up in the Athens and Martins Mill area and lived most of his adult life in Houston and Dallas. He graduated from Athens High School. Jerry attended college at Henderson County Junior College and Texas Tech. On Aug. 27, 1977, he married Virginia Marie Kocian who he was married to for over 43 years at the time of his passing. Jerry worked for Texas Instruments for 36 years. He enjoyed ranching, raising cows and farming. Jerry had a love for cars including owning several Corvettes over his lifetime. He did crossword puzzles and Sudoku in his leisure time. Jerry and Virginia enjoyed traveling whenever they could. During his career at TI, Jerry also traveled extensively around the world including to Southeast Asia, Japan, and Western Europe.
Family was most important to Jerry. He loved watching his three children, 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren run around and play. Jerry loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Virginia Gandy; children, Susan and Jeff Pennington, Tim and Margie Gandy, and Chris and Laura Gandy; grandchildren, James and Salisha Gandy, Joshua Gandy, Jonathan Gandy, Jesse Gandy, Marla Gandy and Daniel Lyons, Rachel Gandy, Christina and Will Herman, Sharon and Jordon Conwell, Brittany and Michael Ward, Lindsey and Christian Scofield, Yzabella Gandy, Christian Gandy and Judah Gandy; and great-grandchildren, Jubilee Herman, Hans Herman, Timothy Gandy, Alexia Lyons, and Hudson Ward.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Pauline Gandy; and daughter, Tiffany Pauline Gandy.
