Peggy Fay (Shaw) Slaton was born in Ben Wheeler, Texas, on Aug. 21, 1928, to Jesse J. Shaw and Rosie (Thompson) Shaw and went to be with the Lord on Nov. 11, 2020, in Mesquite, Texas after a 12-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.
After graduating from Brownsboro High School at the age of 16, Peggy moved to Dallas in 1944 to attend Draughon’s Business College and paid her way by boarding with families and babysitting their children. Later she worked at Sears and Roebuck on Lamar in Dallas where she met and went on to marry Malvin F. Slaton of Van on Aug. 29, 1947.
While raising their three sons as a housewife, Peggy served their church, Calvary Presbyterian Church, which later became Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Dallas, as the church secretary. She also served for many years in the Parent Teacher Association and was named as a lifetime member. When the boys were a little older, she worked for Dallas County in the tax department for over 20 years.
After many years of service, she and Malvin built a retirement home on the Slaton property in Ben Wheeler, Texas, and attended the Edom Methodist Church in Edom, Texas, where Peggy enjoyed cooking for family and friends and travelling.
Peggy is preceded in heaven by her husband, Malvin F. Slaton and one sister, Beth Ann Feagin.
Peggy is survived by her family including her son, Michael F. Slaton and wife, Vicki, of Sunnyvale, Texas; grandson, Kevin Slaton and wife, Anna, of Coppell, Texas; grandson, Bryan Slaton and wife, Sharmen, of Royce City, Texas; son, Steve Slaton and wife, Teresa, of Ben Wheeler, Texas; grandson, Kyle Slaton and wife, Mariah, of Princeton, TX; granddaughter, Michelle Charles and husband, Duane, of Waxahachie, Texas; son, Ken Slaton and wife, Astrid; and granddaughters Stephanie Slaton and Erica Slaton, all of Tucson, Arizona. In addition, Peggy is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, all loved by Grandmother.
Services were at Eubank Funeral Home on Nov. 16, 2020, with graveside services at Haven of Memories.
