Funeral services for Mr. Richard M. Clifton, 82, of Hawkins were held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Liberty United Methodist Church in Quit-man with Reverends Keefe Cropper and David Hicks officiating. Interment followed at Hawkins City Cemetery in Wood County.

The family received friends on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Croley Funeral Home in Hawkins.

He was born in Dallas on Dec. 26, 1936, to Harper M. and Helen Edge Clifton. He was a member of the 1954 City Championship South Oak Cliff Golden Bears football team and graduated in the first graduating class of South Oak Cliff High School in January of 1955.

He attended Southern Methodist University and graduated from the University of North Texas with a BBA. He served in the United States Marines.

He married Sharon Camp in 1968. He worked in management for a trucking company in Dallas, Tulsa, Omaha, and Nashville, and subsequently owned and operated Country Farm Supply with Sharon in Hawkins. He was a lifelong Methodist.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Clifton; daughters, Melinda Clifton Bedsole and her husband, Clayne, Catherine Clifton and her husband, Brian Moersch; brother, Robert L. Clifton and wife, Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Elijah Richard Moersch, Tawny Wyatt and her husband, Jonathan, Brandon Bedsole and his wife, Jessica, Tra Bedsole, Amber Moersch, Joshua Moersch; five great grandchildren, Luke Rylan Wyatt, Easton, and Austin Wyatt, Karsyn Bedsole, and Ashton Moersch; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco.
