Canton Educators Take Education Concerns to Capitol

Canton, Texas educators with the Association of Texas Professional Educators attend “ATPE at the Capitol” formerly known as ATPE Lobby Day

ATPE brings hundreds of educators to State Capitol

Several Canton teachers joined more than 400 educators with the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) at the Capitol, Monday. They discussed with lawmakers important education issues, such as opposing school vouchers, funding an equitable solution to fully funding public education, and providing affordable healthcare options for public school employees.

“We came all the way from Canton to talk face-to-face with our legislators about education policy,” Canton ATPE President Charlene Fowler said. “We’ve done great things in the classroom, but we need support from our legislators – not some misguided voucher program that funnels money to private schools. We hope to build a stronger relationship with our legislators to ensure school employees’ concerns are heard and addressed.”
