CISD Board honored  Pirtle retires after 21 years


It was a night of honors and awards during the Jan. 22 meeting of the Canton Independent School District school board meeting.

Superintendent Jay Tullos announced the retirement of Judy Pirtle, who has been an employee of the district for 21 years.
“"Ms. Pirtle is a great employee who will be missed by staff and students. However, we wish her the best of luck in retirement," said Tullos.

Pirtle worked in the caferteria department and the administration office at CISD. According to Tullos, she also oversaw the ‘Backpack Heroes’ program. The program ensures students have food on the weekends while they are not at school. Pirtle was honored with an award during the board meeting.

The Canton ISD School Board was also honored during the Jan. 22 meeting by students and staff.

Canton High School and Junior High Staffs presented school board members  with a commemorative blanket. Students from the elementary school sent "Thank You" letters and Intermediate students presented each board member with a certificate of appreciation.

Superintendent Jay Tullos was appreciative of the Board,  stating ,"these Trustees volunteer their time and energy to ensure our students have the best opportunity for success in the future. It can be a tough position at times and we are fortunate to have such a supportive Board that is committed to our staff.

The board is made up of Larry Davis, T.A. Hale, Clay Nicklas, Kenneth Pruitt, Julie Stern, Jim Summitt, and Josh Wilkerson.

Each of the campuses give a student presentation. Canton Intermediate Principal Marsha Robison remarked, "The presentations are a way to get the good news out and to give our students the opportunity to speak in front of a crowd. Public speaking is a valuable leadership skill for our students as they continue their education."

Recognitions continued with employees of the month for CISD acknowledged. Employees of the month for January were Elementary, Crystal Clower; Intermediate, Heidi Carroll; Junior High,- Kay Howard; and High School-Alana Westfall.
