Wednesday Study Club visits Lindale Community Theater

In October, the Wednesday Study Club members traveled to Lindale to see the Lindale Community Theater’s mini-production of the off-Broadway hit “Love, Loss, and What I Wore.”

“The members thoroughly enjoyed the presentation based on the book by Ilene Beckerman,” said a club spokesperson.

The five characters relate important events in their lives, using clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell their stories.

Christmas at the Blackwell House event set

 

The annual community Christmas Open House hosted by the Canton Museum Executive Board is scheduled at the Blackwell House Museum from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6.

Located on First Monday Lane adjacent to the Van Zandt County Library, the house has the historical distinction of being the oldest home in VZ County.

Canton Fire Department holds fundraising campaign

Members of the Canton Fire Department are set to kick off the fire fighter’s annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) find urgently needed treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility.

More than 20 fire fighters from the Canton Fire Department will fan out across the city with boots in hand for this year’s drive, Aug. 31- Sept. 2.

“Forever 4-H Friend Award” presented to Chicken Express 

Tommy Phillips, Ag Agent and Melisa Rhodes, FCH Agent, presented this year’s “Forever 4-H Friend Award” to a local business that has continually supported 4-H youth ever since their doors opened for business.

“The 4-H Forever Friend Award honors Chicken Express of Canton and Manager Fred Aldrige for their continued support of the Van Zandt County 4-H program,” said the agents.

“Chicken Express has been a great friend to 4-H providing their famous sweet tea for 4-H and Extension programs.

Take me out to the library

It is time to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at the Van Zandt County Library as the preschoolers will be listening to Ms. Rhonda read stories about America's pastime, baseball. Storytime will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, with a craft session after the reading.

Storytime will take a break after this week, but will resume June 5 during the summer months. Please note that Storytime will meet on Tuesdays during this time.

VZC Library sees busy year

 

 

Following a presentation by Van Zandt County Librarian Susie Pulley, the VZC Commissioners Court approved the annual library report May 2.

VZC Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr. presided over the meeting in the absence of VZC Judge Don Kirkpatrick, who was out of town at a judicial meeting.

K-9 Rico receives ballistic vest

Sheriff Dale Corbett and officers of the VZC Sheriff’s Department were present to witness the department’s K-9 Officer Rico receive a ballistic vest. The vest was donated by Creative Casting. The group raised money to purchase K-9 Rico a ballistic vest from Ray Allen Manufacturing.
