Chambers ‘Bootlegger’s Ball’ honors businesses, citizens

The Canton Chamber of Commerce presented the Bootlegger’s Ball on Friday, April 22, at St. Therese Catholic Church,

Awards were presented to Canton’s finest while attendees enjoyed jazz music, food and spirits. The ball was themed in a 1920s-’30s era clothing style.

Numerous attendees came dressed to the nines in costumes consisting of flapper-girl type of dresses, newsboy hats and suits, feather boas and other accessories.

Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett acted as emcee for the night, entertaining the crowd with stories of what life might have been like during the 1920- ’30s era.

The Community Builder award presented by Castillian Masonic Lodge

#141 was awarded to Blake Fowler by Mason Jim Fuller.

Young Woman of the Year is Emory Rhoten, Young Man of the Year is Preston Yarber. Both awards were presented by the Canton Rotary Club.

Canton ISD officials named their campus teachers of the year as well as the district teacher of the year. Staci Dunn was named Canton Intermediate Teacher of the Year; Taylor Sopish was named Canton Junior High Teacher of the Year; Heather Morphis was named Canton High School Teacher of the Year and Districtwide and Elementary Teacher of the Year was presented to Lezlie Adkins.

Canton Lions Club presented the Volunteer of the Year to Cindy Malouf.

Janis Brown of Billie Rose Floral & Gifts was named the Downtowner of the Year by Canton Main Street.

Ambassador of the Year went to Karla Dunson, presented by Canton Tx Chamber of Commerce.

The Canton EDC awarded the Economic Impact Award to Yesterland Farms.

The Canton Tx Chamber of Commerce presented Business of the Year to Promise Realty.

The Canton Tx Chamber of Commerce presented the Non-Profit of the Year award to the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial.
