Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Savannah Terrell was the guest speaker July 15 during the weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon at the Van Zandt Country Club. Terrell was introduced to those in attendance by Canton Lions Club Member Cindy Malouf.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has closed the VZCR 4414 (Tank Farm Rd) bridge over I-20 in Van Zandt County effective immediately. The closure is necessary to allow crews to inspect and repair damage on the bridge.

The City of Canton has released a statement regarding water service at The Mountain: ‘We know there are questions about water service at The Mountain, and we want to give residents and business owners a clear picture of where things stand.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office shut down an alleged cockfighting operation near Grand Saline on Thursday, July 16. At approximately 7 a.m., investigators with VZCSO, along with the Wills Point Police Department and the SPCA of Texas, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Van Zandt County Road 1118 near Grand Saline.

Lowe’s is deepening its commitment to solve problems and fulfill dreams for the home in the Lone Star state with a store opening in Kaufman in early August. Lowe’s of Kaufman, located at 600 Kings Fort Parkway, includes roughly 95,000 square feet of retail space plus 30,000 square feet of outdoor garden area. It is the fifth new Lowe’s store to open in the past year in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

Brittney Sizemore of Canton was named to the Mississippi State University Spring 2026 Deans' List. To be named to the Deans' List, a student must have achieved a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework.
