COVID-19 case count shows slight increase

The number of newly confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases reported in Van Zandt County increased by 271 over the last two weeks, climbing from 11,877 since the pandemic was first tracked at the end of the July 21 reporting period up to 12,148 at the end of the Aug. 4 reporting period.

The number of cases in Van Zandt County since the pandemic began now includes: 3,464 in residents with a Canton address, up from 3,366 cases as of July 21; 3,042 cases in residents with a Wills Point address, up from 2,971 cases; 1,458 cases in people with a Grand Saline address, up from 1,420 cases; 1,355 cases in residents with a Ben Wheeler address, up from 1,329 cases; 1,086 cases in residents with a Van address, up from 1,067 cases; 932 cases in residents with an Edgewood address, up from 917 cases; and 389 cases in residents with a Fruitvale address, up from 382 cases.

Additionally, there have been 174 cases in residents with a Murchison address, up from 169 cases as of July 21; 166 confirmed and probable cases in residents with a Mabank address, unchanged from the previous reporting period; 140 cases in residents with an Eustace address, unchanged from the previous reporting period; 80 cases in residents with a Chandler address, unchanged from the previous reporting period; 34 cases in residents with an Athens addresses, unchanged from the previous reporting period; 20 cases in residents with a Brownsboro address, unchanged from the previous reporting period; and 15 cases in residents with an Edom address, up from 14 cases.

COVID-19 cases by age group have included the following:

-0-20 years of age: 1,280, up from 1,247 cases the previous reporting period

-21-40 years of age: 2,028, up from 1,999 cases the previous reporting period

-41-59 years of age: 2,031, up from 1,998 cases the previous reporting period

-60-79 years of age: 1,461, up from 1,416 cases the previous reporting period

-80+ years of age: 320, up from 308 cases the previous reporting period

Of the 12,148 confirmed and probable cases since the pandemic began, 11,155 people have recovered according to NET Health.

Vaccination Rate

The most recent data published by the Texas Department of State Health Services indicates that 42.8 percent of the eligible local population had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 38.21 percent of all eligible residents had been designated as being fully vaccinated.

Among all eligible residents 65 and older, 73.55 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine while 68.44 percent have been designated as being fully vaccinated.
