A local gospel artist was recently acknowledged on a national stage.

La La Musiq, who currently resides in Canton, was awarded the 2022 Female Emerging Artist of the Year by the International Singer/Songwriter Association (ISSA).

La La Musiq received the award on Aug. 7 in Atlanta, GA.

The association presented this award and many others at their annual award show on Aug. 7 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The ISSA is an organization who is “dedicated to supporting and serving independent musical artists worldwide.” Their mission statement utters their desire to provide a platform for talented artists who need it. The association has been hosting their annual award show since 2019.

In order to be nominated as a finalist, you must receive enough fan votes in the association’s set voting period. After the finalists are determined, a panel of judges comes together to decide on the overall winners.

La La expressed her gratitude for the committee and everyone who helped her achieve this honor.

“I am so thankful that my peers and fans have been supportive of me on this journey as a gospel artist,” said La La. “It is a hard road as an independent artist to be seen by the masses and The International Singer Songwriters Association gives independent artist the platform to do it. I truly appreciate this award as a symbol of my dedication to the music industry.”

La La is no stranger to awards such as this one. This is her second time receiving the Emerging Artist of the Year from ISSA.

“This is my 2nd time winning this award in three years. I won Female Emerging Artist of The Year in 2020 as well,” La La pointed out. “I am a proud recipient of this prestigious award in 2022. [I want to give] special recognition to Tamanie Dove, founder of The International Singer Songwriters Association, who gives independent artists a chance to share their music with the world.”

Musiq, as well as working as a singer-songwriter, currently serves as the choir director for the Multitude of Christ Ministry, which is in Canton off Hwy. 64.
