news@vanzandtnews.com With no active races for Van Zandt County offices, two VZC school bond elections took center stage on the ballots during the Nov. 8 General Election.

The Martins Mill ISD proposition finished in close fashion, with a final vote count of 491 against and 466 in favor.

The Wills Point ISD proposition vote count is still ongoing and has not yet been called at the time of press.

The district released the following statement on Wednesday, Nov. 9 regarding the outcome of the vote: “Thank you to everyone who came out and voted on the bond measure and used your voice. With a record turnout, we are continuing to wait for the democratic process to play out as we work with our local election’s office. The final bond results are still too close to call at this time. Provisionial and mail-in ballots will not be accounted for until late Tuesday, November 15th.”

Other notable races on the ballot in VZC included the race for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, U.S. Representative for District 5, and State Senator representing District 2.

There were a total of 22,540 ballots cast in Van Zandt County, with 9,825 of those coming during the early voting window. VZC has 39,958 registered voters, meaning the overall voter turnout for the county was 56.41 percent.
