The final monthly sales tax revenue report of the year was published by the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar Dec. 7, indicating that four out of seven local cities had seen gains when comparing against the same period from the previous year.

The City of Fruitvale easily enjoyed the best month of any local entity as collections spiked 81.6 percent, from $3,646.57 in December 2021 up to $6,622.33 in December 2022.

Edom, which had seen monthly dips in both October and November, bounced back in December with collections increasing 35.2 percent from $1,646.60 up to $2,226.16.

For the second consecutive month, the City of Van posted the largest positive dollar change of any county entity. In November, the city saw a sales tax revenue increase of $38,561.76 when comparing against the same calendar month from the previous year Van repeated the feat in December as collections grew a county-best $11,922.49 when comparing against the payment the city received at the same time last year.

Canton rounded out the list of local gainers with collections increasing 2.01 percent, from $399,156.21 in December 2021 up to $407,173.84 in December 2022.

Wills Point took the largest step back of any county city in terms of both negative percentage change and negative dollar change as collections decreased 23.35 percent or $29,790.25 when comparing against last year’s totals.

In December 2021, the City of Grand Saline received a payment of $56,211.06. Twelve months later, the city received a payment of $54,108.47 from the comptroller’s office. Edgewood followed a similar pattern as collection totals decreased from $35,901.01 in December 2021 down to $34,570.15 in December 2022.

Hegar added, “These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.”
