The Canton High School marching band had a successful weekend at the Area level contest this past Saturday, earning first place overall and qualifying for the UIL State Competition.

This marks the 14th straight marching year in a row that the ‘Mighty Band from Eagleland’ has qualified for State, dating back to 1996. In their last appearance in 2020, Canton finished fifth overall. Two years prior in 2018, Canton took home first place, which marked their fourth state championship in 16 years.

Since taking over the director position in 2014, Mike Bartley has led Canton to final round appearances three of the four trips to the State Competition.

Canton is slated to compete on Wednesday, Nov. 9, with the preliminary round taking place at 12:15 p.m., and the final round scheduled for later that night. The event will take place in San Antonio at the Alamodome.
