Missing Mabank man recovered from lake
After being reported missing, the body of 71-yearold Vary Sounthivong of Mabank was found in Cedar Creek Lake near Tom Finley Park.
A concerned citizen made the call to law enforcement concerning Sounthivong’s disappearance around 8:30 a.m. April 20. After Gun Barrel City police responded to the call they located a pickup truck and fishing equipment at the park.
A search was conducted for Sounthivong which lasted all day and into the afternoon of April 20. Later in the evening, people noticed a body that floated up and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist and recover the body. The body was located in an area where there are two jurisdictions.
A Henderson County Justice of the Peace ordered the body of Sounthivong be sent for an autopsy.
Interim Gun Barrel City Chief of Police Jeff Arnswald stated that based on information received from the family of the man, he frequently fished in Cedar Creek Lake.
