Local pace of COVID cases remains low
The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Van Zandt County has remained steady over the summer months, with just 295 confirmed or probable cases reported during the most recent nine-week period between May 2 and June 30.
According to the Northeast Texas Public Health District, Van Zandt County had seen 6,789 confirmed cases and 4,822 probable cases since the pandemic was first tracked.
The number of cases in Van Zandt County since the pandemic began now includes: 3,295 in residents with a Canton address, up from 3,217 cases as of May 2; 2,912 cases in residents with a Wills Point address, up from 2,825 cases; 1,387 cases in people with a Grand Saline address, up from 1,362 cases; 1,293 cases in residents with a Ben Wheeler address, up from 1,249 cases; 1,041 cases in residents with a Van address, up from 1,018 cases; 898 cas es in residents with an Edgewood address, up from 886 cases; and 374 cases in residents with a Fruitvale address, up from 367 cases.
Additionally, there have been 166 cases in residents with a Murchison address, up from 154 cases as of May 2; 163 confirmed and probable cases in residents with a Mabank address, unchanged from the May 2 reporting period; 134 cases in residents with an Eustace address, up from 131 cases; 76 cases in residents with a Chandler address, up from 73 cases; 34 cases in residents with an Athens addresses, up from 33 cases; 19 cases in residents with a Brownsboro address, unchanged from the previous reporting period; and 14 cases in residents with an Edom address, up from 13 cases.
Vaccination Rate
Data available as of July 5 indicated that 42.57 percent of the eligible local population had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 37.98 percent of all eligible residents had been designated as being fully vaccinated.
Among all eligible residents 65 and older, 73.23 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine while 68.15 percent have been designated as being fully vaccinated.
