Quorum barely present for short VZC Commissioners Court session

With barely a quorum in attendance to conduct business, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court approved a number of agenda items during a 17-minute regular session July 20.

VZC Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr. presided over the meeting in the absence of VZC Judge Don Kirkpatrick.

Joining Melton were VZC Pct. 1 Commissioner Chad LaPrade and VZC Pct. 4 Commissioner Tim West as VZC Pct. 3 Commissioner Keith Pearson was also not present.

A donation in the amount of $5,000.00 from VZC Pct. 3 citizen Dennis Bass regarding repairs to VZCR 3715 and VZCR 3732 in VZC Pct. 3 was accepted by the commissioners’ court.

The commissioners’ court approved a re-plat for Indianhead Ranchettes located on VZCR 3729 in VZC Pct. 3.

A plat for Dream Estates/Cerna located at the corner of VZCR 3403 and VZCR 3443 in VZC Pct. 3 was approved by the commissioners’ court.

The commissioners’ court approved a plat for the Patriot Land Subdivision located on FM 3227 and State Highway 198 in VZC Pct. 2.

The sale of a salvaged propane tank for VZC Pct. 3 Road and Bridge was awarded to Tom Malouf of Wills Point at a sealed bid price of $210.00.

Following a presentation by Wood County Asphalt Company Business Operations Manager Kyle Talley of Longview, the commissioners’ court approved the company’s request to readjust their bid price regarding D-mix/oil sand.

A series of fiscal year 2022 budget amendments were approved by the commissioners’ court.

The June 2022 Financial & Investment Report of the VZC Treasurer’s office was approved and entered into the minutes of the commissioners’ court.

Monthly reports submitted by various offices and departments of VZC government were approved and entered into the minutes of the commissioners’ court as a matter of record.

The commissioners’ court approved the reading of the minutes from the July 6 meeting as well the VZC bills that were submitted and ratified for payment.

The next regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, in the VZC Courthouse.
