Running Eagles compete at Kaufman event
The Canton Running Eagles competed in their second event of the fall season Aug. 27, traveling to August for the annual Run with the Lions Cross Country Meet.
Lana Stapleton led the way for Canton in the varsity girls division, placing fourth overall out of 132 runners with a time of 13:17. Graycee Wilson clocked a time of 13:27 to finish seventh, Kimber Holly ran a 14:56 to place 34th, KeAna Whitlock ran a 15:22, Mykah Mebane a 15:35, Kate Wallis a 15:35 and Olivia Freeman an 18:55.
The team finished fifth overall out of 18 teams.
In the varsity boys division, Kevin Velazquez finished 12th overall with a time of 18:13 in a field of 150 runners. Cooper Behrend ran a 20:21, Riley Smith 20:24, and Rocco Foley 20:31.
In the JV girls division, Justynne Earl was 12th in 15:53, Hailee Jade Peffer 30th and Caroline Freeman 53rd. For the JV boys, Zack Seyffert finished fifth in 19:42 followed by Bryce Mebane in 22:21, Tucker Brown in 22:46, Kaden Nichols 25:15, and Logan Glasscock in 27:44.
The Running Eagles are scheduled to compete at the Midlothian Invitational today (Sept. 1) before hosting their own invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10.
Junior High
Emery Martin led the JH Running Eagles by finishing 23rd overall in the girls division out of 227 competitors with a time of 15:42. Diep Nguyen was 73rd in 17:44, Trinity Nations 75th in 17:48, Autumn McKeehan 99th, Emerson Blanton 100th, Alexis Baier 118th and Hanna Clayton 129th.
For the JH boys, the Eagles were led by Gavyn Wilson who placed 47th overall with a time of 15:19. Other Eagle competitors included Malachi Law finishing 51st in 15:25, Daniel Zarate placing 59th in 15:52, and Judd Reid placing 76th in 16:29.
The JH Running Eagles will next compete at their own invitational on Saturday, September 10.
