sports@vanzandtnews.com The Canton Eaglette volleyball program made the short trek to Edgewood last week, squaring off against some of the top teams from across the area at the Lady Dogs Varsity Volleyball Tournament.

Canton first hit the court Aug. 25, making it look easy in a two-set sweep of the Blue Ridge Tigers. The Eaglettes took the first set 25-19 before dominating both offensively and defensively to take the second 25-15.

Canton didn’t have long to savor the win, returning the court later the same day to take on a Farmersville squad that has lost just once in 26 matches this season. The Lady Farmers would live up to their pre-match billing, turning back the Eaglettes 25-22, 25-15 on their way to the Edgewood Tournament title.

Canton would take a brief detour from tournament play Aug. 26, playing host to the Sunnyvale Lady Raiders. Sunnyvale would improve its overall season mark to 13-3 with a hard-fought 25-23, 19-25, 31-29, 23-25, 15-11 marathon win over the Eaglettes.

Canton would return to Edgewood for two more matches Aug. 27, beginning with a two-set sweep of district foe Brownsboro, 25-16, 25-19. The Eaglettes would wrap up their tournament run in the semifinals against host Edgewood, falling 25-21, 25-20 to the Lady Dogs.

Canton was scheduled to host Sulphur Springs Aug. 30 before competing in their final tournament of the season Sept. 1-3 at Whitehouse. The Eaglettes will wrap up non-district with road dates at Kaufman Sept. 6 and Palestine Sept. 9.
