‘PLAY 4 BREY’
Communities across the county honor Breys
Over the past week, communities across the county have been doing their part to pay homage to the Brey family, who are dealing with the tragic loss of their son, Wyatt, and serious injuries to their daughter, Alexis, following an accident this past week.
In an emotional scene at Friday night’s football game between Canton and Van, Canton ISD students and staff held a pregame ceremony in the Breys’ honor.
Heading the ceremony were two of Wyatt’s friends and football teammates, as they led the Eagles out of the tunnel, and walked the Eagles’ captains out to midfield to take part in the coin toss, all while holding Brey’s football jersey.
A moment of silence was held prior to kickoff, in which Canton Intermediate students came onto the field to join Wyatt’s teammates.
Canton football players also wore decals on the back of their helmets, featuring the text ‘WB1’, Brey’s initials and football number.
Canton and Van’s student sections offered their support for the Brey family at the game, hanging up supportive signs across the fence row on the visitor and home sides at Norris Birdwell Stadium.
Numerous schools across the area
The Eagles donned decals on the back of their helmets reading ‘WB1’, in honor of Brey.
:
hosted ‘green out’ days in solidarity on Friday during the school day, and Edgewood’s football team added a green stripe to their helmets during their game against Grand Saline.
In a provided statement, the family offered their gratitude for their community’s support, and asked for continued prayers in the journey that lies ahead of them.
“Our family simply cannot express how much the outpour of support from our community, county, and beyond has meant to each of us. It warms our hearts to know that our family, but especially Alexis and Wyatt, are so incredibly loved. Whether you have prayed for us, given us words of encouragement, worn green in support, or given to us financially please know that we deeply feel every single ounce of your support. Our focus as a family at this time is to support Alexis, who still has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. As we heal and grieve, we ask for you to continue to pray for us all. We plan to take things one minute, one hour, and one day at a time. We know we can never repay each one of you or express just how grateful we are for your love.”
