Veterans Memorial to host program

The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial & Visitors Center in Canton has announced that they will be hosting a VZC Veterans Day program beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

Canton Attorney and United States Army Veteran Nolan White will be the guest speaker during the ceremony.

The colors will be presented by cadets from the Tyler Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and accepting the colors will be United States Air Force Veteran and VZC Pct. 4 Commissioner Tim West.

Following the performance of the National Anthem by Rebecca Pelka, VZC Veterans Memorial Board Chairman Cary Hilliard will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Opening Prayer will be given by Lakeside Baptist Church of Canton Senior Pastor Justin Howe.

After a welcome by West, honored guests will be recognized including U. S. Congressman Lance Gooden, Texas Senator Bob Hall, State Representative Bryan Slaton as well as a number of VZC officials.

VZC veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, as well as current and past Middle East War Veterans will be recognized.

The 2022-23 VZC Veterans Memorial Board will be recognized which includes Cary Hilliard, chairman; Tim West, vice-chairman; Dan Maucieri, treasurer; Dan Curtis, secretary; Virgil Melton Jr., director; Harry Fontenot, director; Spencer Pennington, director; and Don Ashlock, director.

Following White’s presentation, ‘Taps’ will be played by Spencer Pennington to conclude the Veterans Day program.

Those attending are invited to tour the VZC Veterans Memorial Office and Museum following the program.
