A memorial service for Donald Ray Platter, 84, of Canton, was held Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Eubank Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Roberson officiating.

Mr. Platter passed away January 1, 2026, in Tyler. He was born July 14, 1941, in Canton to Roy Lee and Lera Inez Bateman Platter.

Don was a lifelong resident of Van Zandt County. He graduated from Edgewood High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force.

Don retired from Southwestern Bell after 42 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and yard work, watching Westerns, and eating vanilla ice cream and popcorn.

Don was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. He was a longtime member of the Van Zandt Country Club where served as a past president. He enjoyed playing golf and poker with his friends at the Van Zandt Country Club.

Mr. Platter is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lera Platter; sister, Dorothy Burton; and three brothers: Haskell ‘Buster’ Platter, Calvin Platter, and Paul Platter.

Don is survived by his wife, Lee Platter; three daughters: Tina Pickens and husband, Jim; Kristi Whitaker and husband, Eric; and Jennifer Don Arriola and husband, Chris; seven grandchildren: Chelsea, Jay, Sam, Collin, Claire, Gavin and Sadie; five great-grandchildren: Ava, Eastland, Watson, Maizie and Jax; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Family received friends one hour prior to the service.
