Funeral services for Jerry Glen Townsend, 75, of Wills Point, were held on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. Bryan Easley officiating.

Jerry passed away on Jan. 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Crowville, Louisiana on May 15, 1947, to Clifton Ray “Red” and Lillie Irene (Conerly) Townsend. Jerry grew up loving the outdoors. He never missed an opportunity to hunt deer or fish, explore the woods or hunt for arrowheads. Jerry had a custom of keeping a buckeye in his pocket, taking it out and rubbing it for luck. This must have worked, for he was blessed to meet the love of his life in Linda, and they were married on April 18, 1968, and enjoyed 51 wonderful years together. Jerry also was a firm believer in hard work. He worked many years for the oil and gas industry, but when he came home, he climbed on his tractor to bail hay and take care of his cows. Jerry loved spending time with his family, and he taught them the value of always being honest. He was a man of strong faith and a member of New Beginning Baptist Church.

Jerry is survived by his family, sons: Keith Townsend and wife, Donna, and Jason Townsend and wife, Kari; grandsons: Jeriod Townsend and wife, Mandy, and Joshua Townsend; granddaughters: Jessika Bell and husband, Justin; Grace Townsend; Faith Townsend; Rachel Townsend, and Courtney Townsend; great-grandchildren: Ian Bruton; Karson Bell; Emma Townsend; Blakelynn Townsend, and Gracelynn Townsend; sisters: Florence Pemberton; Kathy Townsend; Carolyn Sue Toups; Betty Jean Joslin, and Alice Faye Nelson, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Townsend; son, Stephen Townsend; parents, Clifton Ray “Red” and Lillie Townsend; step-father, Robert Wooley, and sister, Patricia Ann Paulson.

Visitation was on Sunday, Jan. 29, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
