1923-2022

Mattie Lee Dean was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Alpine, to the late Frank McCoy Lewis and Bessie Sheffield Lewis. She had been a resident of Athens at Lakeland House Assisted Living for six years, formerly living in the Ben Wheeler/Canton area for over 60 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Canton, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mattie passed away at the age of 99 on Nov. 23, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wilfred Dean, and daughters, Emma Elaine Dean Brown; Gayle Dean Mayne, and Phyllis Dean Tawater.

Survivors include her daughter, Robbin Dean Thorpe; grandchildren, Ginger Tawater Blurton; Bart Tawater; Tiffany Thorpe Wimpee, and Jarred Thorpe; three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
