1962-2022

Thomas Eirvin Sumpter Jr, 60, of Fruitvale, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at his home. A celebration of life party will be held in June 2023 in his honor and remembrance.

Born June 11, 1962, in Dallas, to Martha Bell Tucker and Thomas Sumpter Sr, he is survived by his ever-loving wife, Cindy Oliveira; brother, Billy; sisters, Deborah and Sharron; stepfather, Ed Langford; son, Jayson, along with grandchildren, North and Aspen Sumpter.

Growing up in Wills Point and attending school locally, he enjoyed various sports, including football and seeing how many trash cans he could jump on his bicycle. He left school early to enter the work force and start his own adventures.

Standing 5’3”, he was never one to shy away from a good time or old-fashioned arm-wrestling match. What he lacked in size, he made up for in strength, with long hair and a short fuse. He lived by his own rules. “Life of the party” is an understatement, he never met a fish he couldn’t catch or a song he couldn’t dance to.

All too soon, he was unable to continue working as many unfortunate health circumstances put his strength and faith to the test. Surviving a broken back, myocardial infarction, and several gastrointestinal issues, he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, which he battled ceaselessly for over a decade. No matter how bad he felt or how sick he was, he was always there for his family and friends anytime they needed a helping hand. Dedicated, loyal, even when sick and broken, he loved to help people and make others smile.

You can call him a fighter, a warrior, a medical anomaly that oncologist will discuss and share notes on in awe and appreciation of his determination to live… I will call him Dad.

To the strongest man the world has ever known… Goodbye… We love you, Boogie.
