1925 – 2023

A Celebration of Life service was held for Wilma Ruth Tucker, 98, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, following a visitation at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. David Gilmer officiating.

Wilma passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 24, 2023, at home in Canton. She was born in Canton on March 8, 1925, to Tommy Clark Gilmer and Hallie Pauline Thormahlen Gilmer.

Wilma was a credit to the women of her era. At 18 with $18 in her pocket, she moved to Dallas to start a life. She worked as a telephone operator and later an accountant for Neiman Marcus. Wilma married her one true love, Kenneth Tucker, in 1947. The couple moved back to Canton in 1956 to raise a family. The couple had 64 beautiful years together at Kenneth’s passing. Wilma was a member of First Baptist of Canton for over 41 years.

She was a homebody, but never idle. She enjoyed cooking and freezing vegetables grown in the garden and was known for her beautiful, arranged home. Wilma enjoyed sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes and suits that were perfect. In her later years, she enjoyed seeing and hearing about the comings and goings in her grandchildren’s lives. She enjoyed life and dearly loved her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Hallie Gilmer; beloved husband, Kenneth Tucker; siblings: H. T. Gilmer, Ona Faye Black, Archie Lee Gilmer and Aubrey Gilmer.

Wilma is survived by her children: Paula and Winn Garrett, Keith and Nancy Tucker, Dennis Tucker, Van and Denise Tucker; grandchildren, Teresa and Troy Baudino, Shelby and Joey Tucker, Amanda and Chris Moser, Amy Tucker; great grandchildren, Evan, Anderson, Lawrence, Luke, Declan, Levi and Gracie; sister, Onetta Chaney; brother, John Gilmer.

Interment was at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
