CHS fall athletic seasons begin
Athletes participating in football, volleyball and cross country shook off the rust from a long summer this week, officially kickstarting their respective seasons with the start of two-a-day workouts Aug. 1.
Cross Country
The Canton cross country program, under the direction of longtime coach Marta Morgan, will get its first taste of competitive action Aug. 20 with an appearance at the Greenville Cross Country Meet. Other key dates will include Canton’s home event Sept 10, a varsity only meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas Sept. 30 and the District Meet back in Canton Oct. 11.
Football
The Heath Ragle-era of Canton football will include two preseasons scrimmages, Aug. 12 in White Oak and Aug. 18 at home against Gladewater, in the coming weeks. Canton will officially kick off its season on the road Aug. 26 in Mineola.
Key dates on Canton’s 2022 schedule will include the annual rivalry game at home against Mabank Sept. 16, the district opener in Center Sept. 23, a game against the Van Vandals at home Sept. 30 and homecoming against Bullard Oct. 14.
Volleyball
Coach Autumn Loyd has pushed all the right buttons in leading the Eaglette volleyball program, guiding Canton to playoff appearances during each of her two years at the helm.
A third consecutive playoff appearance will prove to be a test with Canton now set to take on a schedule that will include Athens, Brownsboro, Cumberland Academy, Lindale, Mabank and Van.
The Eaglettes will have an opportunity to set the tone for the year ahead in the coming week with playday appearances in Rains Aug. 5 and Kaufman Aug. 6 before officially starting the season Aug. 9 in Bullard against Bullard and Neches.
