Cross country competes at Greenville Invitational
The Canton Running Eagles opened their 2022 season at the Greenville Invitational on Aug. 20. Lana Stapleton and Graycee Wilson helped to pace Canton’s varsity girls team, placing first and second respectively. Stapleton clocked a meet-best time of 12:30, while Wilson finished in a time of 12:34.
Other Eaglette finishers included Kimber Holly placing 18th in a time of 13:58, followed by KeAna Whitlock in 23rd with a time of 14:08, Mykah Mebane in 54th and Olivia Freeman in 59th.
There were 135 runners in the race and 16 teams. The Eaglettes finished 3rd overall.
In the varsity boys division, Kevin Velazquez finished fourth in a time of 18:02. He was followed by Zack Seyffert in 23rd with a time of 19:38, Rocco Foley in 54th with a time of 20:31, Cooper Behrend in 56th and Riley Smith in 75th.
There were 144 runners in the race and 20 teams. The Eagles finished 5th overall.
In the JV girls division, Justynne Earl finished third overall in a time of 14:53, Hailee Peffer placed 11th in 15:43, Caroline Freeman placed 52nd and Dakota Thomason 53rd.
In the JV boys division, Bryce Mebane was 29th in 22:15, followed by Tucker Brown in 36th with a time of 22:56, Kaden Nichols in 71st and Logan Glasscock in 76th.
The Running Eagles will compete in Kaufman on Saturday, August 27.
