Eaglette golfers advance to State Tournament
The Canton Eaglette golf program punched its ticket to the State Golf Tournament last week, outdueling some of the top teams in the area to finish third overall at the Class 4A Region II Golf Tournament held at Van Zandt Country Club April 20-21.
Canton posted a combined team total of 683 at the event to finish behind Midlothian Heritage with 636 and Bullard with 657, and ahead of Lindale with 692 and Texarkana Pleasant Grove with 804.
Other teams in the field included Sunnyvale, Kaufman, Van Alstyne, Paris, Life Waxahachie, Celina, Frisco Emerson, North Dallas and Wilmer-Hutchins.
Taryn Clayton led the way for the Eaglette program, finishing sixth overall with a two-day total of 159. Caroline Stern shot 171 to finish 16th individually, Bella Irwin shot 176 to finish tied for 17th individually, Katie Wilkerson shot 177 to finish 19 th individually and Jayme Robertson shot 183 to finish tied for 21st individually.
The Canton quintet will now square off against the top golfers from across the state at the Class 4A State Tournament May 16-17 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
