The Canton Eaglettes were a team on a mission throughout the 2022 season, posting numerous impressive wins on their way to a runner-up finish in district play, postseason wins over both Sunnyvale and Gilmer, and an appearance in the Regional Quarterfinals against the Bullard Lady Panthers.

Canton’s playoff run would officially come to an end last week as the Lady Panthers did just enough to edge the Eaglettes out of this year’s postseason picture.

Bullard got the better of Canton in game one of the series, breaking free for six runs in the third and seven runs in the seventh on their way to a 17-4 victory.

Jaycee Bullard got the starting nod for the Eaglettes in the contest, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs over 5 2/3 innings pitched. Grace Thompson came on in relief, allowing four hits and seven earned runs over 1 1/3 innings.

Payton Bray went 2/4 with a stolen base and two runs scored, Kara Pride went 2/4 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored, Raeleigh Strickland went 2/2 with an RBI and Amrie Clower went 2/2.

The Eaglettes bounced back the following night, roaring back from a late deficit to score a 7-6 win.

Canton trailed 3-0 entering Plumb the sixth, but plated four in the top of the frame to take a 4-3 lead. After Bullard scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to recapture the lead, Canton lit up the scoreboard for three more runs in the seventh to complete the come-from-behind victory.

Jaycee Bullard put together a gutsy effort on the mound, allowing 12 hits and six earned runs to pick up the win.

Payton Bray went 2/4 with a double and a run scored, Amrie Clower went 1/4 with a double and 3 RBI, Raeleigh Strickland went 1/3 with a double and 2 RBI, Chelsea Chitty went 1/4 with a double and an RBI, and Kara Pride went 1/4 with a run scored.

Bullard would lead wire to wire in the third and final game of the series, scoring twice in the first and eight more times in the fifth to secure the 10-0 win.

Jaycee Bullard went the distance for the Eaglettes, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in the season finale.

Payton Bray continued her red-hot hitting against the Lady Panthers, going 2/2 overall to finish the series 6/10 at the plate from the leadoff spot. Kara Pride, Chelsea Chitty and Katrina Morphis all went 1/2 at the plate.

Bullard, now 35-2 on the season, was scheduled to take on Aubrey in the Regional Semifinal round of this year’s playoffs.
