Runners compete out of state
Varsity members of the Canton cross country program hit the road last week, traveling across state lines to compete at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on the University of Arkansas Cross Country Course.
Canton finished ninth overall as a team in the varsity girls division out of 45 competing teams with 342 total points. Lucas Lovejoy won first overall with 70 points, followed by Greenwood in second with 84 points and Yukon in third with 98 points.
Graycee Wilson led the way for the Eaglettes, clocking a time of 20:26.8 to finish 18th overall out of 439 participating runners. Lana Stapleton placed 31st with a time of 20:47.4, Justynne Earl placed 91st with a time of 22:00.8, Kimber Holly placed 128th with a time of 22:47.6, KeAna Whitlock placed 130th with a time of 22:49.6, Kate Wallis placed 157th with a time of 23:26.1 and Mykah Mebane placed 253rd with a time of 24:54.1.
The Eagles did not have enough varsity boys runners to compete for the team title.
Kevin Velazquez helped to pace the Canton varsity boys in the race, finishing 31st overall out of 679 registered runners with a time of 17:05.6. Other finishers included Cooper Behrend placing 357th in a time of 20:13.8, Riley Smith placing 20:18.6 and Rocco Foley placing 519th in 21:54.8.
