The deadline for turning in a free candidate announcement and photo in advance of the March 5 Primary Election is at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb.

The signup period for candidates in the May 4 city and school elections concludes on Feb. 16.

Newly elected Texas House District 2 State Representative Jill Dutton will be sworn into office in a ceremony scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Van Zandt County Courthouse District Courtroom. Dutton will be sworn into office by U.S. District 5 Congressman Lance Gooden.

Both Republican Party candidates in the special runoff election Jan. 30 for the Texas House District 2 seat released statements following the results showing that Jill Dutton of Van defeated Brent Money of Greenville by 111 votes in the three-county election. Texas House District 2 covers Van Zandt, Hunt, and Hopkins Counties.
