Quilters Guild to host ‘Community Sit & Sew’

The Texas Star Quilters Guild has begun a ‘Community Sit & Sew’ on the second Friday of every month at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library in Canton from noon to 4 p.m. “We welcome beginners to those experienced!” said an event spokesperson.

State Parks Day Pass reservations for Eclipse opens March 8

State Park Day Pass reservations for the Solar Eclipse event Monday, April 8 will open at 8 a.m. March 8, Those hoping to view the total eclipse from a state park location can call the Texas State Parks Reservations Center at 512-389-8900 or go online for all parks except the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Reservations for Enchanted Rock will need to be made March 11 by phone only.

‘Employees of the Month’ for February recognized by trustees

The invocation at the beginning of the regular monthly meeting of the Canton School Board Feb. 21 was given by Robert Pierce, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Nevaeh Busby, a 6th grade student at Canton Junior High School, both sixth grade students at Canton Junior High School.

Early voting ends Friday for March Primary

Early Voting will come to a close March 1 for the March 5 Primary Election. As of the end of the business day Feb. 26, a total of 2,301 votes had been cast during the first seven days of Early Voting for the March 5 Primary Election, according to the Van Zandt County Clerk’s office.

City Council conducts appeal hearing

During their regular monthly meeting Feb. 20, the Canton City Council conducted an appeal hearing, the first of its kind for the city, The appeal hearing allowed Bishop Joe Donaldson and the city to present their arguments before a decision was made.

Spring concert fundraiser set for March 9 in Canton

The Spirit and Squirt Horse Rescue Spring Concert is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds located at 24792 State Highway 64 in Canton. The concert will feature ‘Jimmy Lewis & 8 Second Ride Band.’ There will be free entry, but parking will be $20 per vehicle.
