Comptroller makes initial opioid settlement transfer

As chairman of the Texas Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC), Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced the transfer of a one-time allocation of $5 million to the Texas Access to Justice Foundation (TAJF). This transfer represents the first transfer of funding recovered through statewide opioid settlements with pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors and other parties responsible for the opioid epidemic.

TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION The state Public Utility Commission is proposing an untested structure for the state’s power grid after legislators ordered its overhaul in the wake of the 2021 winter storm. The Dallas Morning News reported the proposed “performance credit mechanism,” or PCM, “offers power producers a financial reward to have their plants available during times when Texans are consuming the most energy.” Some lawmakers are skeptical.

County sales tax revenues stay ahead of 2021 pace

The office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar continued to deliver good news to county cities last week, announcing that five out of seven local entities had posted sales tax revenue gains when comparing against the same period from the previous year.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced final financial accountability ratings for more than 1,200 school districts and charter schools across the state, with 85 percent earning the highest rating possible for 2021‘22.

TJC Speech and Debate team sets new record for qualifiers to national tournament

The Tyler Junior College Speech and Debate team finished its fall semester of tournaments on a high note, setting a new school record. At the American Forensics Association District 3 Fall Qualifier Tournament held virtually on Saturday, TJC earned seven qualifications for the AFA National Tournament, which will be held in April 2023 in Santa Ana, California.
