Vets Memorial to hold program May 30

Memorial Day will again take on a special meaning in Van Zandt County as the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Board has announced that they will be hosting their annual program beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the VZC Veterans Memorial in Canton.

Council talks transportation, awards scholarships

Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett presented three scholarships to Canton ISD students during the May 17 Canton City Council meeting. The Sanitation Solutions scholarships were presented to seniors Catherine Hook and Raeleigh Strickland (not present); a City of Canton First Monday scholarship was presented to Emory Rhoten; the Rayford Hutcherson scholarship was presented to graduate Avery Nicks.

Spring is well into bloom and while Cherry Creek and the Old City Lake are both great parks, have you ever stepped foot into the park at Mill Creek Reservoir? Down Arnold Paul Road, you may be surprised to find a city park that offers a completely different experience compared to the other two parks. Canton shooting leaves one dead

The Canton Police Department issued a statement on April 28 regarding a shooting occurring in the City of Canton. “On April 23, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Canton Police Department was notified of a shooting that had occurred at a residence in the City of Canton.
