Following a presentation by the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department May 24, the VZC Commissioners Court unanimously approved the appointment of a new communications and technology administrator for the department.

A standing-room only crowd was in attendance May 29 for the annual Memorial Day program at the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial in Canton. Members of Scout Troop #378 presented the colors to open the program prior to Jeff Russell singing the National Anthem.

The new officers of the Martin’s Hundred Chapter, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, were installed at the Tri-County Library in Mabank on May 11. Tamara Mouliere facilitated the installation of President Carrie Woolverton, Vice President JoAnn Bowman, Chaplain/ Librarian Rebecca Rosson, Treasurer Sherrie Archer, Secretary/Historian Patricia Thibodeau and Registrar Karen Hall.

The Canton Rotary Club recognized the ‘Students of the Month’ for Canton High School, Canton Junior High School, Martins Mill High School and Martins Mill Junior High School during their May 11 meeting. The students recognized included Emma Welty and Gavin Cervantes (CHS); Hannah Kate Clayton and Judd Reid (CJHS); Madison Gurley (MMHS); and Matylda Hayes (MMJH).
