The program largely focuses on areas on certain streets in downtown Canton between the streets of Trade Days Boulevard, W. Church Street, across W. Newman’s, off Highway 80 in Edgewood, is a popular spot for passersby, with a steady stream of customers coming in and out, chirping hellos and goodbyes to the store’s most treasured cashier.

Van Zandt County Sheriff Steve Hendrix submitted a letter of resignation to Van Zandt County Judge Don Kirkpatrick last week, stating that after “careful thought and prayer” he officially resigns as the sheriff for Van Zandt County.

Kid Fish Day set for May 14

Canton’s Kid Fish Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14, on Two Acre Lake, located on Arnold Paul Road by the Canton Animal Shelter. Attendees are asked to bring their own tackle and gear this year, fishermen will be fishing for catfish. Hot dogs will be provided for those who attend. Fishing licenses are not needed for the event, as long as an adult has a child that they are helping fish.

Proposed new VFW Post for Canton discussed

Canton and Van Zandt County could have a new Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post established in the near future following a pre-sentation made to the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 27.
