2025: A year of challenges, accomplishments in Canton

It was another busy year in Canton as 2025 provided the city and its residents a number of challenges to work through while also achieving numerous goals and accomplishments as the new year of 2026 has arrived. Through a month-by-month review, the staff of the Herald looks back at some of the biggest stories that occurred in 2025 and how they may affect 2026 as another busy year arrives.

Church women’s group holds Christmas party

The St. Jsutin’s Episcopal Church in Canton recently held their 2025 Women’s Group Christmas Party.

A fun time was had by all at the annual Women’s Christmas party hosted by Cathy Williams at her Air BnB ‘The Azalea House.’

The Justin Women’s group started with prayer and then shared wonderful foods brought by each member.

The group played several Christmas themed games and then ended with a cookie exchange.

Each member brought a dozen of their favorite Cookies along with the recipe to exchange and share with the other members.

City releases key performance indicators for November

Body
The City of Canton recently released key performance indicators for the month of November that included the following: Dispatch received 594 calls. Fire Department responded to 174 calls. Police Department responded to 452 calls. Animal Shelter took in 25 animals and was able to return seven to their owner and adopted out one animal. Building Department issued 44 permits versus 90 November 2024.

Goodson sworn in as new Canton City Council member

The Canton City Council convened on Dec. 16 at Canton City Hall for its regular monthly meeting that included important administrative updates, community announcements, and new council member introductions. The meeting commenced with a prayer led by Mayor Lou Ann Berry reflecting on the holiday season and seeking guidance for the council’s decisions. Following this, attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge, fostering a sense of unity and community spirit.
The newest member of the Canton City Council, Vicki Goodson, was sworn into office during the regular monthly meeting of the council Dec. 16. All seats on the council are now filled with the appointment of Goodson. Photos by Susan Harris

Cluck Way unveiled during Industrial Park ceremony

Expansion at the Canton Industrial Park continued to move forward with the completion of a new roadway known as Cluck Way, named in honor of Canton City Manager Lonny Cluck. Cluck Way was unveiled during an industrial park holiday open house as a number of city officials and business owners were in attendance Dec.

Author discusses how to be a better manager and leader

In an interview with author Todd Roberts, he discussed a world where employee engagement is at an alarming low. Roberts, a seasoned manager and leadership coach, has stepped up to share his insights through his first book titled ‘How to Be a Great Manager Leader.’ After over 32 years in management, Roberts’ journey from a parttime supervisor to a leadership coach is both inspiring and informative.
