Rains County JP booked into VZC Jail on multiple charges

Rains County Justice of the Peace Robert Jenkins Franklin was arrested May 28 on two counts of official oppression and two counts of tampering with a witness. “He was booked into our jail on another county’s charges, two counts of Official Oppression and two counts of tampering with a witness,” pointed out Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger, who confirmed the arrest and booking into the VZC Jail to Van Zandt Newspapers May 29. “He has since bonded out on a $25,000.00 bond.”

Capital murder fugitive Trevor McEuen was taken into custody in Van Zandt County following the execution of a coordinated search warrant by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, in the early morning hours of Monday, June 2.

Memorial Day program held despite inclement weather

Despite rainy and windy conditions, the annual Memorial Day program May 26 went on as scheduled underneath the pavilion at the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial in Canton. Members of Scout Troop 378 presented the Colors to open the program followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Canton High School student Harper Ellis.
