VZC Veterans Memorial offers scholarship opportunities

The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial is proud to offer opportunities for scholarship(s) to high school seniors whose parents or grandparents were Veterans. This scholarship is a small way to honor the sacrifices that veterans have made for our country and to support the education of their children.

Principals, assistant principals recognized by trustees

The Canton School Board convened on Oct. 20 for a meeting that celebrated student achievements, recognized outstanding staff, and provided updates on school district projects. The meeting opened with a welcome from board members, who introduced two fifth graders, Hudson Opitz and Anne Walters.

Free and reduced-price meal policy announced

Canton ISD Child Nutrition announced its policy recently for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the attached current income eligibility guidelines. Each school/site or the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.

Mikayla Withrow of Canton graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology fromAbilene Christian University. Withrow was among 810 students who received degrees atACU’s May Commencement.

Canton students named to President’s List at MSU

Body
Students on the President’s List at Mississippi State University achieved a 3.80 or better grade-point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C. The following Canton students attained this honor: Brittney Sizemore and Ace Reese.

Meeting date for next RCVZC meeting changed to May 27

Body
Due to the regular meeting date of the fourth Monday of the month falling on Memorial Day, the date for the May meeting of the Republican Club of Van Zandt County has been changed to Tuesday, May 27. The place and time remain the same as the May 27 meeting will take place at the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau Event Center in Canton starting at 7 p.m.

Daughters of the American Revolution meeting held in Canton

The Daughters of the American Revolution, Neches River Chapter, met at the Blackwell House Museum in Canton for their regular meeting on May 17. Marie Hickman, District 6 Regional representative for DAR, swore in the Neches River Chapter’s new officers for the 2025-2027 term.
