susan@vanzandtnews.com The Canton Independent School District (CISD) held its regular monthly school board meeting on April 15. After the meeting was called to order, it commenced with the announcement by Canton ISD Board President Kenneth Pruitt affirming the presence of a quorum and the proper notice of the meeting as required by the Texas Open Meetings Act.
The Canton City Council convened for its regular meeting April 16 at Canton City Hall. The meeting agenda covered a wide range of topics, including citizen engagement, city updates, and executive sessions to discuss key matters. The meeting began with the official call to order, and the presence of a quorum was declared. This was followed by an invocation and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by Canton Boy Scout Troup 378 symbolizing unity and patriotism among the council members and attendees.
A number of award winners were announced April 19 during the Annual Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce Gala at the Canton Civic Center. Around 300 were in attendance.
The 73rd annual National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 2. The event will be held at the Van Zandt County Courthouse in Canton with the prayer service beginning at 12:15 p.m. and continuing until 12:45 p.m.
Patti Huff Smith, noted genealogist and speaker with deep roots in Texas, will present a free workshop from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, for the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society, at the VZC/Sarah Norman Library, located at 317 First Monday Lane in Canton.
My family and friends that know me well often joke about the way I go about planning a hunt.
