It is that time of year again and the Fourth of July will be here before you know it. This year, all of the Fourth of July events and sponsorships scheduled for Thursday, July 4, will be managed through the City of Canton directly.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) opened a disaster recovery center June 21 in Van Zandt County to provide one-on-one help to Texans affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, flooding and straight-line winds April 26-June 5.

If you had a privately-owned road or bridge damaged or destroyed by the Texas storms and flooding April 26-June 5, FEMA or the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) may provide financial assistance for replacement or repairs.

A resolution by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court honoring the late VZC Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr. was read by VZC Judge Andy Reese June 18 during the regular meeting of the commissioners’ court.
