Not all white bass ‘up the creek’

One of my favorite ways to spend an early spring morning is tossing small Roadrunners or Beetle Spins into the slow-moving current of a stream feeding a lake with a healthy population of white bass. When conditions are just right, catching can be nonstop.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently said that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in February, .05 percent more than in February 2023. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.

Artists who paint with acrylic, watercolors, or oils are able to take a thought, a memory or an inspiration and place it on a canvas seamlessly, but what about the artist who creates the picture with words, the author? The one who can take words, put them on a blank canvas, paper, and create a picture that is so real that the audience can smell, hear, and feel what the characters are experiencing.

Early Voting ended March 1 for the March 5 Primary Election. As of the end of the business day March 1, a total of 4,282 votes had been cast during the 11 days of Early Voting for the March 5 Primary Election, according to the Van Zandt County Clerk’s office.

After losing in a special called election Jan. 30, Republican Brent Money rebounded in the March 5 Primary Election to win a full term as the Texas House District 2 State Representative for 2025 and 2026 as he defeated Republican Jill Dutton in the three-county race.

TxDOT project updates for the week of March 4

Canton Maintenance will have one crew repairing base and performing overlay on FM 3227. Expect lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic. Also, crews will be performing bridge maintenance on FM 16, I-20, and other locations throughout the county. Another crew will be sweeping curb and gutter and bridges throughout the county.
