Those interested in filing to run in the May 2 Canton City Council ‘General Election’ and the Canton School Board election have until Friday, Feb. 13 to sign up.

Forrest E. Lumpkin III has announced his candidacy for District 5 United States House of Representatives in the Democratic Primary.

“I was born in Grand Saline and graduated from Canton High School,” said Van Zandt County Pct. 2 Commissioner Republican candidate James Warrington. “I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years, retiring at the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. During my military career, I completed two combat tours in Iraq, two combat tours in Afghanistan, and one humanitarian mission in Haiti.

Perla Muñoz Hopkins is an AMERICA FIRST, TEXAS FIRST CONSERVATIVE PATRIOT running to be your next Lieutenant Governor of the Great State of Texas. She is a Christian, mother of three adult children, a military spouse of 25 years, children’s book author, Air Force veteran, has earned three master’s degrees in Education, and serves as volunteer Policy and Parental Rights Advocate.

Holly Taylor has announced her candidacy in the Democratic Primary for Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 9. She is a candidate for Texas’s top criminal court, the Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA).

“My name is Chad LaPrade and l am a proven conservative leader with a strong record of service to the people of Van Zandt County,” said Chad LaPrade. “My background includes not only 34 years and ongoing in the fire service here in Van Zandt County, but also my service as County Commissioner for Precinct 1 from 2021 to 2025, where I played an integral role on the Commissioner’s Court alongside County Judge Don Kirkpatrick and Commissioners Virgil Melton, Jr (Precinct 1), Keith Pearson (Precinct 3), and Tim West (Precinct 4).

As local voters prepare to cast their ballots in the upcoming election, veteran public servant Cliff Williams is seeking re-election as Van Zandt County Precinct 2 Commissioner, highlighting a blend of smalltown values, legal expertise, and a track record of protecting property rights and community services.

“ I am Edie Booth, Democratic Candidate for Van Zandt County Commissioner, Precinct 2,” announced Edie Booth. “My grandparents immigrated to Texas for a better life in the early 1900s, the Bobos and Adkins families, long-time county residents. My uncles (six) served in WWII, while my father, in the Civil Service, was stationed in Alaska as a school principal (or spy) on the Aleutian Islands. My father’s career choice as Bureau of Indian Affairs administrator, brought our family to my birthplace, Nevada. My early life on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (near Wounded Knee) provided opportunity to understand another culture.
