Early Voting underway in Van Zandt County

Early Voting for the March 3 Republican and Democratic Primary Elections in Van Zandt County began Feb. 17 and continues through Friday, Feb. 27 at two locations: The VZC/ Sarah Norman Library located at 317 First Monday Lane (FM 859) in Canton, and The Movie House located at 255 Main Street downtown in Van.

Burn ban in effect for second time this year

For the second time this year, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court implemented a 30-day burn ban, effective immediately. The action was taken during the regular meeting of the commissioners’ court Feb.

Richard Schmidt announces candidacy for VZC Criminal District Attorney

“My name is Richard Schmidt, and I am seeking the office of Criminal District Attorney,” said Richard Schmidt. “I am a native Texan who served four years in the U.S. Army before attending college under the G.I. Bill, later graduating from law school and becoming a lawyer in 2004. Since then, my family and I have lived and worked in Van Zandt County, and my children attended Canton schools each step of the way and graduated recently.
