In the July 21 issue of the Canton Herald, the Canton Police blotter was published with an incorrect heading of arrests. Leann Coats, 58, Wills Point,was accused by an individual. She was not arrested and her case was closed by officials. Haley D. Brown, 25, Terrell, was listed as a suspect in a case. Brown was not arrested, according to the police department. The Herald regrets the errors.

Burning trailer causes path of destruction

Approximately nine homes along County Road 151 and 151A near the City of Kaufman were evacuated shortly after noon July 31 as a precaution as three separate fires broke out. Witnesses reported that a vehicle pulling a burning trailer left a path of destruction behind before unlatching and abandoning the burning trailer on a bridge. All three fires are approximately 20 % contained as of Sunday evening and there have been no reports of injury and only one of the nine homes suffered damage.

Great Outdoors Expo held

Rock Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro, Texas hosted the God and the Great Outdoors Expo on July 29-30. It was the second year for the church to host the event and it was another success. Kids lined up on Saturday to be the first to enter and receive a free fishing pole.

First Baptist Church to host marriage conference

First Baptist Church of Canton will host the Resist the Drift marriage conference from Focus on the Family. “Many couples have a good marriage but often feel they’re drifting apart,” Pastor Mike Roberson says. “Resist the Drift helps couples recognize those areas where they feel disconnected and then gives them action steps to rebuild the connection and strengthen their marriage.”

Van Zandt County Constable Precinct 2 Heath Burton stands at attention with a salute along Interstate 20 to pay his respects to Lorenzo Bustos, a 29-year-old Smith County Sheriff’s Deputy who lost his life in the line of duty during the early morning hours of July 29. Bustos was reportedly in the midst of a traffic stop when he was struck by a drunk driver subsequently identified as 21-year-old Daniel Nyenze Nyabuto of Grand Prairie.
