The Henderson County Commissioners’ Court meeting was cut short after a bomb threat forced several evacuations June 7. The threat stopped the meeting during a presentation by UT Health Regional CEO Donald Baker.

An email from John Parker floated through my inbox one day, and I glanced at it to see what it was and then was swept away as a real-life story of tragedy and loss with an insurmountable amount of love weaved in unfolded. It was hard to pull away from the tale and the more I read the more I was intrigued as the story of Lt. Frank Hubbard, his wife, his best friend, and more than 80 years of history unfolded.

The summer months are upon us and as the heat looms near, events in Canton are still being held. The fifth season of the downtown Farmer’s Market is still underway with new local producers out to sell.

We are all grieving with the families who lost loved ones in the Uvalde shooting. Such horror does not fade overnight. However, as tragic as this incident is, the legislature has a responsibility to first know all the facts that contributed to the totality of the incident and the actions of all people and organizations that contributed in any way before, during, and after the incident before considering new legislation. A rush to a legislative solution could very well result in making future incidents even worse.
