One lucky man in Edgewood has won a $250,000 Texas Lottery scratch off ticket prize, thanks in part to Newman’s Convenience Store cashier Mary Erwin. Newman’s, off Highway 80 in Edgewood, is a popular spot for passersby, with a steady stream of customers coming in and out, chirping hellos and goodbyes to the store’s most treasured cashier.

The results from the 2022 Van Zandt County Fair encompass winners from Baby Miss to Miss Van Zandt County. There were winners across different competitions consisting of most photogenic, talent, best western wear and more.

Friday, April 27, Canton High School seniors took their final walk through the campuses of Canton ISD, high fiving the students who will follow in their footsteps on the way to graduation. Canton’s Kid Fish Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14, on Two Acre Lake, located on Arnold Paul Road by the Canton Animal Shelter. Attendees are asked to bring their own tackle and gear this year, fishermen will be fishing for catfish. Hot dogs will be provided for those who attend. Fishing licenses are not needed for the event, as long as an adult has a child that they are helping fish.

Canton and Van Zandt County could have a new Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post established in the near future following a pre-sentation made to the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 27.

Saturday, April 23, was the first day of the 2022 Farmers’ Market in downtown Canton. The Farmers’ Market saw a busy opening day, with people filing in to check out the booths until its close at noon. Fresh eggs, jams, jellies, honey, vegetables, baked items, canned items, beef and quilts were just some of the items offered for sale.
